Change to download format.

Here is what I learned on my summer vacation. First the way VR used to download the routes was in the route format. What I found out is that the GPS unit that I own the Etrex Legand has a very limited capacity for routes. However it has tons of memory for tracks. With that in mind I have changed the way that routes are downloaded. Now they will be downloaded as tracks. You will then be able to use trackback feature on your GPS unit to follow the track. On my unit it will give me the abilty to trackback to the start or to the finish of the track.

I used this method while doing tracks on the coast to coast over in England and all seemed to work out much better as tracks then as routes.

Please let us know if you see any troubles with this method.

As I have said before this is a work always in motion and it is supposed to fun and easy.

USGS GPS Class

I went to the class on compass and GPS over at the Federal Center in Lakewood, CO this last Friday. It is a great class, free and full of good information both about compass navigation and GPS with map navigation. I would highly recomend this for anyone that can attend. I have been doing compass navigation for quite a while and learned lots of stuff that I had no idea of.

In the GPS part learned lots of good information about how to integrate and use the GPS with maps from various sources. It really helped me get just that much better at using this cool tool.

Hi Everyone

This is an exiting site that I am very interested in. I have been looking for a cool idea that I can really get exited about for a site and content delivery thing and I think I have found it here. I love the idea of sharing routes from different areas in the world. How many times have you traveled to somewhere to thrash around looking for a cool place to run/walk/ride. So with these small hand held GPS units and good maps now people can share these ‘people powered’ routes.

I look forward to see how this site evolves and hope people find it useful!
